Choosing the Right University for you!

Picking the university that is right for you is a big decision, and there are so many things to consider! Whilst university rankings can help to narrow your choices, choosing a university simply by its reputation doesn’t provide you with the full picture, and should only be one aspect to consider.

We believe it’s essential that you make a well researched, personal choice about where to study and research your study options

Research, research, research!

To help you choose a course and university, it’s important that you research your study options thoroughly.

The internet is a great start to find out more about universities and what courses are available. Here are some resources we recommend to get you started:

NCUK website – if you’re interested on studying at one of the NCUK universities, look no further than the NCUK website:
– A brief overview of each of our partner universities can be found here.
– For NCUK-specific entry requirements, use our University Course Finder to find out exactly what’ll you need to get that offer!
– Uni Buddy – Get in touch with our current students and chat with them about their experiences of studying at the NCUK universities

University Course websites are an excellent source of finding out everything you need to know about the course you are interested in studying. You will find lots of information about the course content, the teaching style and types of assessment, and most importantly, lots of information about the course entry requirements and how to apply.

Top tip: Use the university course websites to compare similar courses across different institutions to ensure that the modules and study content aligns with your expectations and career ambitions!

Ready to apply? – Visit UCAS Apply and start filling in your application!

All undergraduate applications are made online through UCAS Apply.

My application has been submitted – What happens next?

When your application has been submitted to UCAS, you’ll receive an email from UCAS letting you know that you can sign in to UCAS Track to see how your application is progressing. Universities are now very busy considering your applications.

When will I receive a response?

Each university will take a different amount to respond to your application. It could be a matter of days or weeks before you hear back from a university, so don’t worry if it takes some time.

Once you have received a reply from all your university choices, you will need to respond to let the universities know your preferences. Your first-choice university is your conditional firm (CF) choice, and your second-choice university is your conditional insurance (CI) choice. Your conditional insurance choice should always have lower entry requirements than your conditional firm choice as the insurance acts as a ‘back-up’ on results day.

Results day
On results day NCUK or UCAS will send your exam results to your university choices. If you have met the requirements of your conditional firm, congratulations, you have an unconditional place!

If you have missed the grades for your CF but meet the grades for your insurance choice, you will be going to your insurance university.

If you have narrowly missed the grades of your CF/CI, the university may choose to accept you or offer you an alternative course. If you do not meet the grades for your CF/CI don’t worry, you will go through NCUK’s dedicated clearing process
